Wasteful CW LCD insert in "EW" magazine

The idea to insert a video LCD screen in magazines is apparently not new. I guess I missed this one, since I am reading a lot of news online. For sure the design is catchy and the idea is making twitter and blogs talking a lot about it. It is apparently a success for CW channel. But really, no one is standing to to say how stupid is it? We already have so many things that we trash after just one use, but a computerized LCD device with some 2G or 3G network capabilities?

I don’t know about you but the recent warm weather reminds me how global warming is speeding up and how we should be more conscious about our waste. Graphic design & technology should be more sustainable and lead the way to help people think. Maybe CW network could use the extra money it costs to produce such campaign to either make better TV shows and plant some trees with the extra change.
